This beginner’s course, presented by Gearhouse Splitbeam in association with DWR Distribution, dives into the world of single and double-purchase handline flying systems, covering essential terminology, operation, and safety guidelines. You’ll learn how to balance loads, call moves, and communicate effectively during performances. Plus, hands-on practical sessions will have you learning, bar lashing, knot-tying, and running show cues like a pro! Whether you’re a theatre newbie or looking to level up your skills, this course is your ticket to becoming a confident and competent flyman.
The course will present delegates with an overview of a single and double purchase flying system.

- Terminology
- Bar, Batten, System Pipe. Flybar……etc
- Terms and Practices that will not be covered in this course, but should be known…Overhaul; Brail, Bridle, Divert; Swinging the Bar or Transfer
- Operation and Loading of System
- Balancing
- Rope Lock
- Calling Moves
- Runaways
- Marking Dead’s
- Loading and storing weights.
- Strip and de-rig from Bar.
- Safety Guidelines of Operation
- Operation during Performance.

The Practical Session Includes:
